RUCH, Ore. (August 9, 2026) – Firefighters made significant progress on the Woodrat Mountain Fire Sunday, increasing containment to 50% and extending mop-up to 200 feet from the fire’s perimeter. The fire remains mapped at 282 acres.
The dedicated snagging operation has also been completed across the incident. Hazardous trees presented a significant challenge on this fire and required specialized falling resources to safely secure portions of the perimeter. While individual hazard trees may still be identified as work continues, the large-scale snagging operation for the fire has been completed.
Tonight’s resources include seven 20-person hand crews, one 10-person hand crew, three Type 6 engines and four water tenders. Firefighters will continue gridding for remaining heat and working deeper into the burned area overnight. With continued progress on the Woodrat Mountain Fire, resources are also available to support new initial attack incidents, with some resources assisting with night suppression efforts on the Forks State Park Fire.
With the incident continuing to stabilize and its complexity decreasing, a local Type 4 organization will assume command of the Woodrat Mountain Fire at 6 a.m. Monday. The transition reflects the progress made on the incident, while allowing firefighters to continue the detailed mop-up and suppression work necessary to further secure the fire.
All evacuation notifications associated with the Woodrat Mountain Fire were lifted Sunday. Residents can continue checking readyjacksonco.com for current emergency information.
A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains in place over the fire area. Flying a drone near a wildfire is illegal and can force firefighting aircraft to leave the area.
The official cause of the Woodrat Mountain Fire remains under active investigation.
