As of 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, fire season has officially ended on Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Southwest Oregon District-protected lands in Jackson and Josephine counties.
All public fire restrictions under the regulated use closure have been lifted, and Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPL) are no longer in effect.
The termination of fire season removes ODF’s seasonal restrictions on equipment use, including power saws, mowing, cutting, grinding, welding and other spark-emitting activities.
Outdoor debris burning, including burn piles and burn barrels, is now allowed under ODF regulations. However, local fire department restrictions and permit requirements may still apply. Residents should check with their local fire department and confirm that burning is allowed before lighting any debris piles.
The burning of slash resulting from forest harvesting operations continues to require a permit year-round.

Although fire season has officially ended, wildfires can still start and spread during fall and winter, particularly during periods of dry or windy weather. ODF encourages everyone to continue practicing fire prevention, never leave burn piles unattended and use caution with activities that could produce sparks.
ODF firefighters remain available to respond to wildfires throughout the year.
